Ibuprofen and Oxcarbazepine Tablets Recalled Over Mislabeled Packaging

Mislabeled packaging could lead to patients receiving ibuprofen tablets instead of oxcarbazepine intended for treating seizures in patients with epilepsy. American Health Packaging (AHP) has issued a voluntary recall on Ibuprofen and Oxcarbazepine tablets that may have been mislabeled.

Dr. DeLand at Camp Sugar Falls

Each summer, the American Diabetes Association’s Camp Sugar Falls provides children with diabetes in the mid-Tennessee area a special place to play, laugh, share and learn about diabetes management. Camp Sugar Falls is a day-camp experience for children ages 6 to 12 that have been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. The camp offers an exciting week of recreational and educational activities that focus on nutrition, lifestyle habits, self-esteem and team building.

This year Camp Sugar Falls was honored to have Dr. Maitland DeLand in attendance. Dr. DeLand spoke to the campers about how they are all heroes and should be proud of their great accomplishments.

Experts Advise New Optimum Blood Sugar Level for Kids With Type 1 Diabetes

ada-logoExperts at the American Diabetes Association are advising a lower blood sugar target for children and teens with type 1 diabetes.

According to the ADA, patients younger than age 19 should try to maintain an A1C blood sugar level lower than 7.5 percent, the group said in a new position statement.

A1C is a test that determines average blood sugar (glucose) levels over several months.

Mayo Clinic First to Show Virotherapy is Promising Against Multiple Myeloma

ROCHESTER, Minn. — May 14, 2014 — In a proof of principle clinical trial, Mayo Clinic researchers have demonstrated that virotherapy — destroying cancer with a virus that infects and kills cancer cells but spares normal tissues — can be effective against the deadly cancer multiple myeloma. The findings appear in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
